Marilyn, a certified dementia practitioner (CDP), graduated from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with a bachelors degree in business administration and later attended the University of Phoenix earning hours toward her MBA. She has more than 20 years of experience serving in leadership roles, which also includes serving as CEO of her own assisted living business. Marilyn also served as a certified elementary school teacher for 10 years after returning to school to get her certification in elementary education. She has always had the heart to serve others and help improve their quality of life. In addition, after attending Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Marilyn was ordained as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and she continues to minister through teaching and preaching of God’s word. She enjoys sharing her gifts with residents as needed during their weekly worship services.
Her favorite part of working with seniors is simply being a part of their daily lives. Whether she is having a conversation with them as they reminisce about their life, leading a devotional service, encouraging them to participate in a group activity, engaging with them in a one-on-one activity or holding their hand as they walk down the hall together, Marilyn can be found with a smile on her face!
Marilyn finds joy in coming to work because it is such a warm and loving environment where the staff feels valued, appreciated and supported. She feels blessed working for a company that cares as much for the employees as they do for the residents.
When Marilyn is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband of 30 years, her children, grandchildren and sister. Her favorite activities include reading, whitewater rafting, canoeing, relaxing on the beach and taking cruises.
