We all come together around the table during the holidays, and the Blake, the holiday season is a special time to bring cheer to our residents through food and dining experiences. Throughout the holidays we feature traditional and special, festive meals. Many of our residents are offsite with their families on the day of a holiday, so beginning November 1st, we serve new and old favorites each week, so that our residents can also celebrate together with a special meal. We also welcome our residents’ families into our dining rooms for special buffets, activities and musical performances.
Traditional meals like turkey and dressing and glazed ham with pineapple casserole are center stage this time of year. Our residents also enjoy good steak and fresh seafood, so we prepare Prime Rib and beef tenderloin, shrimp cocktail and crab cakes, to name a few favorites. Cranberry Walnut Bread has become a holiday staple, and of course, buttermilk cornbread and corn muffins are always on the menu. And no seasonal meal would be complete without desserts! We make our collective favorites this time of year: chess pie, pecan pie, pumpkin pie. And we include new favorites like maple-sweet potato cheesecake, butterscotch cake and chocolate buttermilk pie.
Nutrition and balance are at the forefront of our menu planning throughout the year, and we offer many options that focus on lighter eating during the holidays, including no –sugar and low sodium selections.
